When is the right time to start preparing for my
admission in US?
Ideally 6 to 7 months in advance to the target Semester.
What are the different admission semesters in the US?
The main semesters are September, January and May.
How long will the university take to decide on my
application?
2 -3 weeks from the date of application. The acceptance is communicated
to you directly or through the respective consultant or both.
Is 3 year Indian degree valid for post graduate admission
in The US?
Yes. However, very few universities accept a 3 year degree. In such a
scenario, you may have to undergo an additional eight months course to be
eligible for Post graduation /Masters.
Is Knowledge of English Language a must?
English Language is must in most of the universities , To establish your
knowledge of English, you are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS test and
the Language skills is established basis the test scores.
What is a transcript?
A transcript is the original certificates of degree and marks list issued
by your university or institution where you have cleared your past
academics. Please note that photocopies of the student's marks sheet is not
treated as a transcript.
Do all Universities offer scholarships?
Most of the universities offer scholarships to international students.
The basic criterion of availing a scholarship is your good test scores and
excellent academic records.
What is a conditional and unconditional letter of offer?
Unconditional Offer: If the university is
offering an Unconditional Offer to the applicant, you will not have to meet
any further academic or English language requirements.
Conditional Offer: If the University is offering
a Conditional Offer, any conditions applying to your offer would be stated
in your offer letter. These are usually a requirement for completion of
studies at a particular level.
How many recommendations are required?
Normally Three recommendations are required.
Should Recommendations be sent to university directly?
Some universities always request recommenders to send their
recommendation. directly. Most accept the recommendations' along with other
application material. However, they must be in sealed envelopes, with the
signature of the recommender across the flap of the same, confirming that it
was not tampered with.
When does one start following up with universities on
admission status?
After at least 3-4 weeks from applying. Normally universities take
between 2 to 8 weeks to decide on admissions
What is I -20 ? By when does one get it?
It is the letter of admission issued by the institute which is granting
you admission to their program. One gets it generally around 10 weeks post
applying and once the institute has decided on the admission.
From whom should recommendations be taken?
It is always advisable to take it from those people who have taught you
or have interacted with you with academic relevance.
What is the average cost of education and living in The
US?
The average cost of education and living in the US would be around
20000-30000 USD.
How much of funds should one show as financial resource
proof for Bachelor level admission?
You have to show enough to at least cover the cost of 1st year education
and living expenses.
How much of funds should one show as financial resource
proof for Masters level admission?
You have to show enough to at cover the cost of 2 years (generally the
full duration of the program) for education and living expenses.

What forms of financial aid are offered by universities?
Scholarships, Assistantships, Fee waivers, stipends etc.
Is financial aid offered purely on merit?
Yes. Merit based on academic performance & scores. Certain universities
also give Need Based aid, but only in specific cases. If a student apply
carefully he can apply for the same.
What is the teaching assistantship?
In Teaching Assistantship, a student is expected to teach students at a
lower level and help with assignments/evaluation of students' grades etc. A
Research Assistant helps his guide in research work.
What is research assistantship?
A Research Assistant helps his guide in research work.
How is scholarship different from assistantship?
Scholarship does not require any compensatory work, whereas Assistantship
(Research, Teaching or Administrative) require work contribution.
Can an international student work while studying in the
US?
One can take up Part Time work after registering for classes . One is not
allowed full time work.
Is Internship considered as work?
No.
