John Wright announces Scholarship programme for study @ SIT, New Zealand

Chennai, April 23rd 2010: John Wright, the Brand Ambassador of The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) & Former Coach of the Indian National Cricket Team today announced a first of its kind – John Wright Scholarship @ SIT. The scholarship is an exclusive opportunity for aspiring Indian students to live, learn and work in New Zealand and excel in a field of their choice.

Speaking on the launch occasion in the city Mr. John Wright of Southern Institute of Technology said, “I have traveled across the Globe and appreciate the immense talent in the Indian sub-continent. And I would like to invite aspiring Indian students to New Zealand to pursue studies and aspire higher in their lives. With a wide portfolio of over 135 courses, the applicants will have the opportunity to pursue a course and career of their choice. My scholarship – the John Wright Scholarship @ SIT, will provide the necessary pathway for a career rich roadmap.”

SIT is a New Zealand government owned polytechnic located in Invercargill, Southland, where employment opportunities have been excellent for international students and migrants. SIT is the fifth largest polytechnic out of the 20 in NZ and the second largest in the South Island. Along with the support of the New Zealand Local government, the institute is committed to the Indian Market on a long-term basis. Invercargill Mayor, Tim Shadbolt and Member of Parliament Mr. Eric Roy, have both recently visited India and enjoy making personal regular contact with the students in Invercargill.

Addressing the press conference Mr. Ken McDonald, International Marketing Manager, SIT said, “We @ SIT have always believed in supporting talent. Our initiative of John Wright Scholarship is a special drive to support aspiring Indian students with full fee scholarship of an amount varying between NZ $ 14000 (INR-4, 34000/-) to NZ$ 18,000( INR 5,58000/-.) to cover the programme fees. SIT will also assist the students in securing part-time jobs during their study and full-time jobs in Southland on completion of their studies, if they so desire. John Wright scholarships are available for the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise, Graduate Diploma in Sport and Recreation, Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management, Diploma in Information Technology, and ATTTO Diploma in Tourism Management.

A condition of the scholarship being provided is to be involved in or become a club or regional representative of Southland cricket and other sports”. SIT hosted a seminar in the city to share details on the Institute and the extensive course profile. The seminar is a part of a nation-wide road show to attract and support Indian talent.
